Camp Blodgett also offers a 4-week academic camp, the Camp Blodgett Summer Academy, designed to minimize summer learning loss for children who will be entering grades 5-8 in the school year following their camp experience. This program runs during the regular camp program and is for children who are looking for academic assistance or an academic challenge during the summer months. Youth must apply and be accepted into the program, live in Kent or Ottawa County, commit to attending all 4 weeks of the program, agree to participate fully and cooperatively, and demonstrate economic need. Those interested are encouraged to apply during the winter months by calling the camp office or emailing the program director at the address below. Acceptance into the program is limited.

Financial Assistance: To ensure that all children have the opportunity to attend summer camp, fees for attending Camp Blodgett are determined using a sliding fee scale based on family income and household size. Transportation is also provided to and from the camp from Grand Rapids for all campers.

John Ball Zoo's Summer Zoo Camp is a unique, hands-on learning experience for children ages 3 years to those entering 9th grade! Each class follows a specific wildlife theme and uses a variety of methods to stimulate the learning process (role-playing, behind the scenes tours, games, stories, songs and more). Special projects are often brought home throughout the week. Each class has their own room with a qualified instructor and educational aide, and will frequently spend time in the zoo and park setting. Day camp and overnight programs are designed for the age students will be at the start of class or for the grade level students will be entering in fall. Class sizes are strictly limited to provide a high quality experience.
