Grand Rapids Community Foundation
In 2002, Mary I. Hunting gave a bequest of over $2 million to Grand Rapids Community Foundation creating the Mary I. and David D. Hunting Family Fund. Mrs. Hunting’s wish was that the Fund should support camps and camping for children in West Michigan, a cause very dear to her.
Through her generous bequest, Mrs. Hunting will ensure that children continue to experience the wholesome fun of camp in Michigan’s great outdoors for generations to come.
To best achieve the purpose of this Fund, Grand Rapids Community Foundation gathered camp directors from throughout West Michigan and hosted a series of focus groups. During these sessions, camp leaders identified the need to promote summer camp to families as among their greatest challenge.
This website was created to address this need. It is intended to serve as a central hub, connecting parents and children to summer camps in West Michigan.
The Hunting Fund is also used to address the more specific needs of individual camps.
